An Easy Way To Introduce Family Worship

Psalm 22:27 announces that all the families of the nations will worship before the Lord.

What a beautiful picture: Families worshipping together before the Lord.

Family worship is a corporate spiritual discipline encouraged, commanded, and modeled throughout Scripture and yet, in our busy, distracted culture today, it is far too often a lost discipline. So how to we recapture this beautiful picture? How do we begin to cultivate family worship in our homes today?

Now I know that worship is more than just music, but it does seem that most believers associate music with worship pretty frequently. So let's consider how music can play a vital role in our times of family worship.

One easy way to begin introducing family worship is to simply allow worship music to be the soundtrack of your home.

Mornings seem a bit different when praise music is playing as you get ready. Kids begin to sing to Jesus while coloring if there's a worship playlist playing in their room, and even dinner conversations begin to take a unique form when the closest iPhone or iPad has Hillsong on repeat.

I don't play the guitar or piano, and I don't sing very well. So the idea of incorporating a form of musical family worship can be intimidating. I've found, though, that by simply hitting the "play" button on an intentional playlist, the name of Christ is naturally exalted in our hearts and home, and we begin to scratch the surface of the lost joy of Family Worship.
